As the pace of modern life accelerates, it doesn’t matter if we’re feeling stressed out and overwhelmed. We’re expected to keep up. When faced with countless deadlines, schedules, and demands from friends, family, and employers, in the middle of the frenzy, it seems counterintuitive to say, “You need to slow down and be more mindful.”

I can hear your response to that suggestion now. “Yeah, right!” you snort with a tinge of righteous indignation. “Not happening. Don’t have time.”

Once we’ve gotten swept away in the tsunami of expectations and responsibilities, the last thing we think will help is taking a break and slowing down, even for a moment.

That constant stress level can leave you feeling anxious, detached, and disoriented if you don’t. Continue to ignore the warning sirens, and depression, relationship issues, and even mental or physical health can be jeopardized. It is, as one says, “A vicious cycle.”
